School Fees 2009-2010

Payment Procedure:

1. The Application Fee must be submitted at the time of application, which is non-refundable.
2. Tuition Fees are quoted for the full year and are payable in two parts.  The payment must be made by the due date as indicated in the invoice, normally in September and February.
3. A penalty of 30,000 yen will be automatically applied for payments received 15 days after the due date. Failure to pay by 30 days after the due date may result in the student being removed from the school enrolment list.
4. Failure to pay school fees by 60 days after the due date will automatically result in a student’s removal from the school unless the Council grants an extension in writing, due to the family’s special circumstances.
5. The school reserves the right to withhold report cards and other records if there is an outstanding balance due.
6. If the school suspends a student due to non-payment of school fees, and additional payment of 50,000 yen will be conditional to a student’s reinstatement plus the full remaining year’s fees in advance.
7. The Maintenance fund is charged annually to all students of SMIS and is non-refundable.
8. Children who enter during the school year will be charged from the month of entry.
9. Children who leave before the end of the school year will be charged up to the end of the month in which they withdraw. A minimum of two months’ written notice of withdrawal must be given to the Head of School.
10. The school does not refund fees, except in the case where the required notice of withdrawal has been given to the Head of School as outlined in Point 9.

What the Tuition Fees cover:
Tuition Fees cover all textbooks and exercise books and other educational materials used by the children as part of the main curriculum, YMCA swimming courses, two outside visits per year, and the school  yearbook.

Additional Fees:
Library Bag: Each student must have a school library bag to transport library books to and from school. They are available from the School Office at a cost of 1300 yen.

Contributions and Donations:
All contributions and/or donations to the school will be used exclusively for the enrichment of SMIS.

Student Discount of Tuition Fees for Second or Subsequent Siblings:
St. Michael’s International School recognises the impact that the cost of a private school education can have on families with multiple children.  In an effort to assist families considering our school, we have established a tuition discount for families with multiple siblings.  The following are the criteria for qualification of a tuition fee discount.  If you feel that you meet the criteria, please ask the School Office for the Application of Sibling Discount Form.

• Definition of sibling – The student must be one of two or more children having one or both parents in common.  This discount is not available to family members outside the sibling relationship.
• The discount is applied to the sibling(s) in the order of enrolment.  This is established at the time of registration.
• Sibling discount per student (second and subsequent siblings) – 10% of Term 1 Tuition.
• Please note that this discount scheme is NOT available to families whose fees are paid by either party’s employer as a partial or full benefit.

 Other Information:

• To be eligible for the sibling discount, a child must be enrolled and paying full-fees in the same semester as his/her sibling(s).
• The discount is applicable to tuition fee only (other fees and fund do not apply for discount).
• Application must be received before the student(s) starts attending school.
