Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

Parent Teacher Association (PTA)St. Michael's International School’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is guided in all its undertakings by its Mission Statement:

believing that education is a continuing partnership process, and that the start and end of this process is not determined by the school bell; parents and teachers have a joint responsibility to work closely to develop the potential of their child/children’s spiritual, intellectual, emotional and physical growth.

To assist us in achieving this Mission, we will strive to accomplish the following:

  • To encourage and facilitate regular and transparent communication between parents, teachers and the school administration;
  • To provide a supportive forum for parents;
  • To propose and undertake programs and activities in line with the British National Curriculum followed by the school; and
  • To be a vehicle for fundraising to develop the resources and facilities at St. Michael’s International School.

The PTA is a voluntary organisation made up of all parents and guardians of children attending the school and all members of the school staff. The objective of the Association is to advance the education of the pupils of the school and to encourage greater parental involvement within school life. Through regular meetings the PTA gives parents and staff members a venue to discuss school programmes and work as a team to:

  • Promote an atmosphere of good will and cooperation
  • Foster closer ties between the school and parents
  • Provide a forum for the expression of views on matters of general interest to the parents
  • Provide services and programs in support of scholastic pursuits and extra-curricular activities
  • Raise funds and purchase equipment to maintain and improve facilities
  • Serve as a platform for social links between various parents and children outside normal school and playground areas

The PTA is led by an Executive Committee and assisted by class representatives, positions which change each school year. All parents pay annual PTA dues of ¥4,000 per family. These fees help cover the costs of PTA-led events throughout the year, including movie nights, seasonal parties, an Easter Egg hunt, the Mother’s Day Sale and many more fun-filled activities. The highlight of the year is the annual School Bazaar held in late April. The Bazaar is an important yearly fundraiser for the school, with proceeds being used to help fund new capital expenditure projects within the school (in the past this has included new playground equipment and updating the school hall), whilst also providing hours of fun and lasting memories for the children, teachers, parents and community.
