School Visit

The best way to find out about St. Michael’s International School is to arrange a visit on a normal school day.  We arrange tours of the school every term, where you can see St. Michael’s in action: visit classrooms and see our children learning. 

Tours take approximately 1 hour, which includes an opportunity to ask questions during and after the visit.

Q Why should I choose St. Michael’s International School?

Q Where do St. Michael’s students come from?

Currently we have over 23 different nationalities represented in school. About 30% are from the Indian sub-continent, 20% are Japanese and the remaining 50% are from Europe and the rest of the world.

Q My child is currently in a different school system. How will they fit into St. Michael’s?

During the admission process we collect a range of information about your child. We also take into consideration the recommendations from your current school. Together this gives us a very good picture of your child’s abilities and potential. Our experienced staff are familiar with welcoming students from different school systems and helping them to settle quickly.

Q What languages are taught at St. Michael’s?

Japanese is taught twice a week from Year 1 onwards; we cater for native and non-native speakers. We employ an ESOL teacher (English for Speakers of Other Languages) who supports children who join our school with little English. We also have an English Language Section (ELS) which offers full and part -time English courses for adults as well as afternoon classes for children. Children and parents with little English are encouraged to also enrol in these classes when they join St. Michael’s International School.

Q Do parents and children have to speak English before enrolling at St. Michael’s International School?

St. Michael’s is a British International school where, with the exception of Japanese, everything is taught in English by native English speaking teachers. To ensure no one is left out, English is the shared language of the playground, so it is helpful for new students to speak some English.
Successful applicants with only a little English are given the help and support they need to benefit from the full curriculum as soon as possible, however they are encouraged to also enroll in our after school ELS programme.
Progress reports and parent-teacher consultation meetings are all held in English so it is useful if at least one parent has some level of confidence in English. We offer English Language classes for adults on a full and part-time basis.

Q Can we park our cars at school?

No. You can drop-off and pick-up your children from school but we do not provide long term parking. There are pay-as-you-use car parks within easy reach of St. Michael’s International School.

Q Where do most students go after graduating from St. Michael’s?

St. Michael’s alumni can be found all over the globe! Students leave us well prepared for whatever education path they choose. Locally, families have the choice of a number of different international Schools. Occasionally some of our children opt to go to a Japanese school, entering Grade 5 in June after they have graduated from St. Michael’s.

Q Will my child fit in if they go to a different school system such as an IB, US or Japanese school after graduating from St. Michael’s?

Yes, we believe that the values and skills your children acquire during their time with us will enable them to transition with confidence and adapt to any school environment. We receive positive feedback from families that their children experience continued success once they have relocated to their new school. St. Michael’s students have a good reputation in other international schools in the Kansai region.
